Samuel
Run, jump, and face death.
Samuel is a 2D platformer game inspired by Super Meat Boy. The game is currently in a playable alpha, and will be finished soon.
LEVELS 1-2 ARE THE ONLY PLAYABLE LEVELS SO FAR. THERE ARE SOME BUGS THAT MAKE THE GAME DIFFICULT TO PLAY, AND I APOLOGIZE. I’LL TRY TO FIX THEM SOON!
Here is what the game offers:
- Controller support
- Level editor, with level data you can share.
- Honestly there's not really that much that makes it stand out, I'm just rushing to get this released
Have fun!
(oh yeah all credits are ingame since i'm too lazy to paste it in the description)

This game handles the 8-bit style really well! You can tell they spent a ton of time polishing the assets, the ui, and everything else! This idea is very over-done, but this time, it felt fresh for some reason! The movement was fluid and I loved the wall climb ability and how easy it is to master! It's really fun. The jump and dive is interesting, but a bit hard to master for people who aren't so used to these types of controls. So, this part of the game is great.
BUT... (there's always a but)
The levels, although nicely designed and they introduce each mechanic in a great way (similar to Geometry Dash), some levels fluctuate in difficulty. For example, I found the first few levels easy, and then when I reached the blood pool levels, It was just utterly confusing! I would like to also discuss the blind jumps which, even if you can technically slightly predict where you must land, is still very annoying. There should be maybe a wall-climb down when those types of jumps happen, or maybe make the camera bigger during each section for a short while? I don't know, but I died multiple times just because of those.
Now, a big problem is the death mechanism. The death in itself is good, and I love the UI for it and the idea! However, there are no toggles for CHECKPOINTS, which is really annoying when the levels make you feel like its their fault. I would much rather spawn at the last checkpoint. Spawning right at the start is very discouraging and honestly I could not bring myself to start all over again.
The game took a boring, seemingly dead concept and expanded on it in a way that made it seem pretty fresh, which was surprising, but some things still need to be tweaked! Once and if you add these things, I'm sure this game will be even better!
Great idea, ok execution. Hope to see more improvements!
Thanks for the feedback 😁
